Larry Martin Emmer

September 19, 1937 - January 17, 2017

Larry Emmer died suddenly January 17. He was born September 19, 1937 to Albert and Bess Emmer. He grew up in Oklahoma City and attended the University of Oklahoma where he made many life-long friends, and looked forward eagerly to their yearly reunion.

After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. He returned to Emmer Brothers, the family retail business, where he had been working since junior high. In 1990, he joined Dollar General Stores scouting locations in several states. In 1998, he started the final chapter of his career in commercial real estate, where he was privileged to work with Karen Milburn, who became a close friend and partner.

Larry was loved by many friends for his loyalty and was known as a man you could always count on. He was a man who stood strong when times were tough. No matter what his personal circumstances, he always projected a positive attitude.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sue and sister Linda Emmer Meyer.
He is survived by his sister Sharon Cohen and husband Murray, son Jay and wife Lindsey and grandson Jack Monroe Emmer, daughter Jenna Dibble and husband Dan, and daughter Laura Emmer. Also, nephews Mark Cohen and wife Cathy, Michael Cohen and Jennifer Ostertag, and David Meyer and wife Rachel, niece Debbie Meyer Harris and husband Earl, and many great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday, January 20 at 1:00 at Emanuel Hebrew Cemetery, 106th and South Western. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Emanuel Synagogue, 900 NW 47th, Oklahoma City, OK 73118; the Central OK Humane Society, 9300 N. May Avenue, Suite 400-281, Oklahoma City, OK 73120; or the charity of your choice.
