Funeral services for Laurel Glynn Ellis, 83, of Wills Point, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Wills Point Church of Christ with Mark Turner officiating. Interment will follow locally at White Rose Cemetery under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point. He passed away Monday afternoon, March 30, 2015, in Wills Point surrounded by his family. Glynn was born August 25, 1931, in Edgewood, the son of Otis Vernon Ellis and Adeline Black Ellis. He was raised in Edgewood and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1949. From 1949 to 1950, he attended Henderson County Junior College with a football scholarship. Glynn was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, where he proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He fought in three major battles and in June of 1952, he was wounded. Glynn received the Purple Heart Metal, four Battle Stars and five Campaign ribbons and was honorably discharged on January 15, 1954. Glynn continued his education at the University of Texas in Austin for one year then transferred to East Texas State University, where he received a B.B.A. degree with a minor in Economics. Glynn accepted a job as a traveling shoe salesman with Weyenberg Shoe Manufacturing Company. His territory for fourteen years was Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. On October 5, 1956, he married Myra June Horton in Wills Point. Glynn was an entrepreneur at heart founding or acquiring many businesses, Fairway Shoe Store, Fairway Security, Wills Point Investment Group, Pizza Inn/King and Ellis Glen Longhorn Registered Cattle Company. He was one of the founders of Citizen National Bank in Wills Point, where he served as Chairman of the Board from 1981 – 1996. In 2005, he developed Laurel Glen Estates in Wills Point, a fast growing housing development. Glynn was a Charter member of the Wills Point Antique Tractor Club, Wills Point Rotary Club, where he had perfect attendance for forty-five years, Wills Point City Council for four years, and Wills Point ISD Trustee for four years. In 1984, he was named Van Zandt County Outstanding Citizen of the Year. In 2006 he was awarded citizen of the year by the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce. The same year he received the honor of Rotarian of the year from the Wills Point Rotary Club. In 2011 Glynn was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the WP Rotary Club in recognition of exceptional leadership and devoted service from 1968-2011. Glynn always had a strong Christian faith and lived his life dedicated to helping others and teaching God's way whenever he got an opportunity. Family was the center of his life, he loved people and had a servants heart. He was a faithful member of the Wills Point Church of Christ, where he had previously served as a Deacon and Elder for many years. Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Billy Ellis, James Ellis and a sister-in-law, Virginia Ellis. Glynn is survived by his wife of 58 years, June Ellis, of Wills Point; son, Greg Ellis & wife, Stephanie, of Wills Point; three daughters, Cathy Turner & husband, Mark, of Wills Point, Carol Ebarb & husband, Tommy, of Wills Point and Kim Cole & husband, Brad, of Wills Point; three sisters-in-law, Liz Ellis, of Wills Point, Nell Ellis, of Houston and Bennie Henson & husband, G.B., of Terrell; fourteen grandchildren, Justin Platter, Blake Howell, Grant Turner, Leslie Buentello & husband, Moises, Jessie Cole & fiancé, Ben Shank, Katie Morris & husband, Dusty, Jenna Blevins, Brittany Howell, Jonathan Cole & wife, Nickiey, Jace Ellis, Jenny Sanchez & husband, Juan, Ashley Willingham, Jake Ebarb and Nicki Camacho & husband, Eddie and seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Alinea Hospice staff as well as his caregivers: Stella Lyons, Michele Teel, Tamera Upchurch, Suzanne Giroux, Franses and Felisha Peppers and Regina Davis. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
