Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Collier-Butler Chapel for Leatha Thornton Nabors, age 87, of Gadsden, who passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2017. Revs. Mat Alexander and Larry Fuhrman will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services is directing.
Mrs. Nabors graduated from Gadsden High School in 1947 and married the love of her life, Ollie Wilson Nabors, December 18, 1949. She served on the Advisory Board at the Holy Name of Jesus Hospital and was a member of the Antiquarian Society. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church, Gadsden, serving in many capacities. Mrs. Nabors worked at the Peppermint Pony for more than 15 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her loving husband of 61 years, Ollie Wilson Nabors; and sisters, Mable Thornton Barnes and Myra Thornton Smith.
Mrs. Nabors is survived by her daughter, Peggy Nabors Higgins and husband, Roger Higgins; granddaughter, Jana Higgins Tarleton and husband Mike Tarelton; grandson, J. Eric Higgins and wife, Elizabeth Noble Higgins; great-granddaughters, Hannah Leath and Mattie Alan Tarleton; great-grandsons, Wilson Noble and Samuel Thornton Higgins; sister, Laura Nell Thornton Lipscomb; sister-in-law, Panthea Palmer Nabors; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Gadsden, 235 S. 5th Street, Gadsden AL 35901.
