Leon Vernon Byrd Delhi Funeral services for Mr. Leon Vernon "Pero" Byrd 85 of Delhi will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 18, 2018 in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Delhi. Visitation will be held at Cox Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 PM until time of services. Burial will be in the Newton Community Cemetery. Pero was born in Delhi, LA on October 6, 1932 and passed from this life on Thursday, February 16, 2018 at his home in Delhi. He was a longtime member of Newton Baptist Church and was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Pero started working as an Engineer in the service and continued building bridges back home for the rest of his life until his retirement. He was a wonderful Dad and Grandfather who cherished his family dearly. Pero was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting and never met a stranger. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Vernon "Bud" Byrd and Myrtle (Patty) Byrd. Pero is survived by his loving daughter Rena McPherson Solsbee and husband Ben of Landrum, SC; a granddaughter Olivia McPherson Elmore (Chance) and two great grandchildren Caleb and Stella Elmore. He is also survived by two step daughters Amanda Thompson and Rebecca Thornton and their children Elizabeth, Peyton, Gabrielle and Ryan and a very special dear friend Beth Dalton. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Blackmon, Jerry Cobb, Randy Fryer, Robert Cobb, Jimmy Strong and John Thompson. Cox Funeral Home Delhi
