Leroy "Roy" Ralph Borden, age 97, of Phoenix, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017. Roy was born to Wilma and George Borden in Fremont, Missouri on October 26, 1919, the third of four children. He married Justine Gallagher on September 24, 1944. The couple enjoyed 58 years of happiness. To that union was born one daughter, Diane. Roy served his country as a proud member of the United States Navy for four years. He attended Radar School at Texas A&M. He did not pursue a career in radar; instead, because of his competence as a Touch Typist, he became a "striker" for the rating of Yeoman. He entered the Navy as a Seaman Second, and went on to achieve the highest enlisted rank in the Navy, Chief Petty Officer. He was proud of this achievement. Roy started his career selling advertising in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at KGGM. Beginning in radio and then on to television, he continued in sales until his retirement in Phoenix on January 1, 1980. Roy was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Justine; daughter, Diane; son-in-law, Neil Richard; and his three siblings, Ruby, Opal, and George. He is survived by two grandchildren, one great grandchild, and two nieces. According to Roy's wishes, no service will be held. Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
