COLUMBIA - A service to the Witness of Resurrection for Maj. Lester A. “Buck” Loflen, U.S. Army, (Ret.), 96, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church with visitation following the service in the Narthex. A private burial will be held in the church Memorial Gardens.



Mr. Loflen passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017. Born on October 8, 1920, in Mt. Airy, N.C., he was the son of the late Dillard Wilson Loflen and Jettie Irene Moody Loflen.



A veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he was awarded the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, and the Purple Heart (Combat Infantry Badge, with Cluster). He was active in his church, Forest Lake Presbyterian, and in neighborhood activities. He was happiest when helping others.



Surviving are his wife, Kathryn P. Loflen of Columbia; daughter, Karen Gail Loflen of Columbia; brother, Dillard Wade Loflen of Mt. Airy, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
