Mr. Lewis Massey, age 91, of Acworth, GA., passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Massey was born on November 22, 1925 in Collinsville, AL., a son to the late William Massey and Ida Bryant Massey.
Mr. Massey spent most of his youth in Collinsville, Alabama. Following his graduation from high school, Lewis enlisted to serve our country in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1949. In 1973, Lewis married the love of his life, Ms. JoAnn Formby and the two built a beautiful life together, full of countless memories. Following his service in the Navy, Lewis worked for the Bowman Company. In 1967, he began his career in Law Enforcement working for the Kennesaw City Police Department eventually to become the Chief of Police. After over twenty years in Law Enforcement, Lewis retired from the Cobb County Police Department in 1991. He was a faithful member of Kennesaw First Baptist Church for many years and also was a mason with the Van Buren Lodge #355 in Collinsville, AL. He was a man of great dedication whether it be to his faith in God, work, or his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. Lewis will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Along with his parents, Mr. Massey is preceded in death by two brother and three sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Mrs. JoAnn Massey; two children, Larry Massey, wife Angela, and Janice Massey; three step-children, Chip Nelson, wife Gayle, Robert M Nelson, wife Betty, and Billie Ann Mimbs, husband Larry; ten grandchildren, David Huger, Jonathan Huger, Hunter Massey, Brenda Shook, Holley Massey, Deanna Renz, Thomas Nelson, LeaAnn Mimbs, Kristie Sailor, and Joshua Nelson; ten great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita Oliver of Collinsville, AL; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Mr. Lewis Massey will take place at eleven o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 in the Chapel of Kennesaw First Baptist Church with Dr. Perry Fowler, Rev. David Huggins, Charles Pearce, and Jim Pritchett officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Kennesaw.
A visitation with the family will take place from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw.
