Lewis Richard "Dick" Deputy (82) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Ashton Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born April 11, 1934 in Crothersville, IN and was the son of the late Marietta and Ferris Deputy. After graduating from Crothersville High School, Dick attended Franklin College where he received his bachelor's degree in Education. While there, he was a member of Kappa Delta Roe and also met his wife of 60 years, Lois Hanes. A life-long educator, Dick taught History and Reading at various Fort Wayne Community Schools. He then obtained a Master's Degree in Reading Education from St. Francis College and transitioned to adult education. When Dick retired from Fort Wayne Community Schools in 1994 he was the Supervisor of Adult Education. During his retirement, he was an active member of Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church, serving as church treasurer, transporting others to and from church, delivering tapes to the homebound and helping with Wednesday night meals. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.
Dick leaves behind his wife, Lois Deputy, daughter Elizabeth (Randy) Farmer; son Matthew (Lisa) Deputy; and grandchildren Weston (Allison) Geyer, Bryce Deputy, and Sarah and Michael Farmer. Extended special grandchildren include Jon, Terra, John, Tiera, Jeb, Chevy, Billy, Justin, Megan, Alaina, Leiana, Kenzie, Tyler, Brooke and Walker. Dick was preceded in death by his sister Janet and his brother Jack.

Funeral service will be 11am Monday, February 27, 2917 at Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church, 1232 Crescent Avenue, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior, Reverend Mark Gough presiding. Calling will also be held from 3 to 7pm Sunday, February 26, at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. Memorial contributions may be made to Crescent Avenue United Methodist Church.
