Lindsey Story, age 13, of Gilman, died on Sunday, August 6, 2017, at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City with her family by her side after a long, courageous battle with Leukemia.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2017, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Jamie Bogaard, Lynnville Friends Church, officiating. A reception will be held at the Grinnell Elks Lodge after her service. Pallbearers are Travis Story, Justin Myers, David Story, Damon Wolfson, Raymond Helmuth, Santiago Guillen, Oscar Guillen, Wyatt Doty, Dan Doty and Nathan Criswell.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home and Lindsey's family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.

Memorials may be designated to the Lindsey Story Memorial Fund and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Condolences may be shared with her family online at www.smithfh.com.

Lindsey Marie Story was born on March 14, 2004, in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Michael and Sara (Myers) Story. She was raised in Iowa Falls until 2012, when the family moved to Grinnell.

Lindsey was a strong, loving, sassy, and independent young lady who dearly loved her family. She was a big Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. Her enjoyments were going shopping, spending time with her cousins, riding her bike, jumping on the trampoline, playing board and card games, reading, taking tractor rides with her grandpa, Eugene, and spending summer days with her grandma Donna.

In the latter part of February 2017, Lindsey was granted her wish to attend a WWE Wrestling event in Wisconsin, made possible by the Make a Wish Foundation. Her family would like to thank the many people near and far for their support, thoughts and prayers during these last two years after Lindsey's diagnosis of Leukemia. While at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital receiving treatments, she made many friends who shared the same health complications. Her kind, gentle way comforted those children whose parents couldn't be there with them at the hospital. The cancer didn't win…heaven did. It gained a spunky, funny, vibrant, caring young angel.

Lindsey is survived by her parents, Michael and Sara Story of Gilman; her siblings, Haley Story of Iowa City, Justin Myers of Gilman, and Travis Story of Gilman; paternal grandparents, Eugene Story of Grinnell and Donna (Ramon) Mendoza of Gilman; maternal grandparents, Gary (Linda) Myers of Cedar Rapids and JoAnn Myers of Waverly, Iowa; great grandmothers, Thelma Story of Grinnell and Velda Myers of Waverly; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
