Lonnie W. Pittman, 79, died Friday evening (March 27, 2015) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities following a short illness. He was a native of Brunswick GA but was a life-long resident of Ware County. He was the son of the late Rev. Melvin Samuel Pittman and Velma King Pittman. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother Emma Cox Pittman. He was a graduate of Manor High School. He was the longest living member of Suwannee Chapel Church of God of Prophecy where he served as the Sunday School Superintendant for 45 years, a deacon for nearly 40 years, and had served as song leader for many years. He had also served on the State Church of God of Prophecy Finance Committee for several years. He was the former owner of Pittman Trucking Company, Manor Timber Company, and had been named as a Ware County Master Tree Farmer Award Recipient. He was also an avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife Bobbie N. Thrift Pittman of Waycross, a daughter, Sheila P. Walker (husband Lawton), a son, Bill Pittman (wife Susan) of Atlanta, 5 grandchildren Jake Walker, Caroline Walker, William Pittman, Anna Pittman, and Samuel Pittman, a brother, Rev. Leonard Pittman of Waycross, and a nephew Joey Pittman (wife Liz) of Waycross. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday (March 30, 2015) at Suwannee Chapel Church of God of Prophecy. Burial will be in the Suwannee Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday at Music Funeral Home. Members of the Men's Sunday School Class of Suwannee Chapel Church of God of Prophecy are asked to gather at the church at 1:40 PM Monday to serve as honorary pallbearers. Music Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
