Mrs. Lorene Gladys (Jones) Plumley was welcomed into Heaven on July 14, 2017. Born in Pear, WV on April 24, 1926 to Oscar and Daisy (Kincaid) Jones, Lorene was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County.

In 1943, she married Joe Plumley, Jr. and they started a family that would grow to include four children, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. As the children left the nest to start families of their own, Lorene joined Heck’s Department Store, where she worked until her retirement.

Throughout her life, Lorene’s greatest joys were her family and her faith. She was a member of Beckley First Church of the Nazarene, where she sang in the choir and was a tireless volunteer for the church’s rummage sales and community outreach programs.

She will be remembered for her patience, her kindness, her love of God, her sense of humor, and her delicious homemade jelly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two grandchildren: Gregory Plumley and Laura Waddell.

Those left to carry on her memory are her children: Roger Plumley and wife, Peggy, of Crab Orchard, Harold Plumley and wife, Katherine, of Crab Orchard, Linda Waddell of Beckley, and Pamela McConnell of Nashville, Grandchildren: Beth Cassidy, Christopher Plumley, Brandon Smith, Andrea Sullivan, Megan Constantino, Sarah McConnell, and Evan McConnell, great-grandchildren: Jessica, Ciara, Grace, Ian, and Blake, and great-great grandchildren: Anna and Chance. She is also survived by her sisters Pauline Tucker, Mary Catherine Thompson, Eldana Smith, and Susie Metrick, as well as many friends and extended family members.

Friends may gather with the family from 11 – 1pm on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.

Services will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Wagner officiating.

Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Those serving as pallbearers include, JR Hayen, Roger Overbay, Brandon Smith, Chris Plumley, Evan McConnell, Dr. Wesley McConnell and Shawn Sullivan.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Pine Lodge Nursing Home and Bowers Hospice House.
