Dr. Lorraine M. Monnin passed away on June 11, 2017 in Carlsbad, California. Dr. Monnin was born in Niagara Falls, New York in 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Helen Monnin. She received a Bachelor's Degree from St. Mary of the Woods in Indiana after which she worked organizing and directing plays throughout the United States with a Traveling show company. It was during this time that she had the honor of meeting and working with Norman Rockwell.

Dr. Monnin received her PhD at Stanford University and was a Professor of Communication Disorders at California State University in Los Angeles for 23 years until her retirement in 1991. She published many research articles and co-authored and authored a number of books in her chosen field. Dr. Monnin also served as the Department Chair for the Department of Communication Disorders at Cal State Los Angeles. Upon her retirement, the Department established an award in her honor: "The Lorraine M. Monnin Alumnus Award for Dedicated Service to the Public Schools" that has been awarded to a number of accomplished students and professionals since Dr. Monnin's retirement.

Dr. Monnin is survived by a number of cousins.

Graveside services for Dr. Monnin will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Rosemead, California on July 3rd at 11am.
