Lorraine Mabel Hodges peacefully passed at home on Sunday, October 16th. She was surrounded by her loving family, faithful caregivers and her childhood friend of over 70 years, Lois LeBlanc.
Lorraine was born on October 9, 1932 in Winchester, MA to Arthur and Ethel Haley. She graduated from Stoneham High School in 1950 and continued her education at Melrose Nursing School. After graduation, she and a fellow nurse threw caution to the wind and joined the Air Force. While on a trip to the Monterey Peninsula to visit friends, she met her future husband, Howard Hodges. They were married in Carmel in 1956. Daughter Julie and son Hal arrived in the next two years respectively. Son Steven brought up the rear nine years later.
In the late 50's she started a monthly Bostonian Club with her many relocated Massachusetts friends. Although only 4 remained (Lea, Lois, Lorraine and Lucille), they continued to meet weekly for brunch. Over the years she hosted many Christmas and New Year's Eve parties for the club ladies and their husbands. She also enjoyed playing poker with close friends and relatives.
Lorraine enjoyed traveling and made many trips to her beloved Nova Scotia, Canada, including a cross country trip piloting her 28' motorhome in 1977 with Howard, her parents and son Steven. She loved visiting her native New England to see family and friends. She made every effort to attend her high school and nursing class reunions including her Stoneham High School 60th reunion in 2010.
Until just recently, she could be found with Howard and family eating lunch at their special table at Fandango Restaurant in Pacific Grove. In fact, her last outing was there where she beat everyone to the table with her walker.
Lorraine is survived by her loving husband of sixty years Howard Hodges, daughter Julie Dufault (Scott), sons Hal Hodges (Theresa) and Steven Hodges, two grandchildren Megan Burdick and Justin Dufault and two great-grandchildren Ada and Ryan Burdick. She is also survived by her nieces Kathy Jacobs, Judi Tessier and Mary Burgess.
The family would like to thank her dedicated care-givers, Bess, Lori, Precy and Romela.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Friends Rescue Project where her "Grand-Dog" Preston was adopted and to honor her love of cats. AFRP: P.O. Box 51083, Pacific Grove, CA 93950
She was greatly loved and her sense of humor and quick wit will be missed. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
