After the war, Louis married Mary Ford on December 27, 1947 in Jackson County, Missouri at Kansas City and they remained together for their entire lives. His post-war goal was to work in dental healthcare. While in the Naval Reserves, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952 which sent him to dental school training. Louis retired at the rank of Technical Sargent while stationed at England Air Force Base, Louisiana in 1974, receiving an Honorable Discharge after 21 years of service. His appointments included Japan and Germany. For the rest of his life, he volunteered at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona.
