Lou Nelle Carroll Heaney, 94, of Valdosta, died on Friday, July 26, 2013 at her home. Born in Valdosta on February 23, 1919, she was the daughter of the late W.W. and Irby Nelle Peterson Carroll. Her early education was received at the Training School at Georgia State Womans College. She was a graduate of Valdosta High School and attended business college in Valdosta. From the age of 18 Lou Nelle was involved with her father, brother and sister in the family business, Carroll Packing Company. During the 1970's she worked in real estate with her family and throughout her life she continued to be active in business. Loving, generous and kind to all, Lou Nelle never met a stranger. She was a member of the Lake Park Christian Church, Smiling Faces, Path Finders and the Lake Park Historical Society. Survivors are her daughter and son in law, Dodie Roberson Powers and John Ron of Lake Park; a son and daughter in law Thad Heaney and Phyllis of Valdosta; step daughters, Kathy Eggers of North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Mary Lynn Karst and husband, Jack of Eldorado, Wisconsin, Patty Steverson of Jackson, Mississippi; grandchildren, Christopher Griffin and wife, Janet of New York, New York, Chandler Griffin and wife, Lauree of Sandy, Utah, Stephanie Hughes and husband, Jeremy of Tucker, Christa Heaney, Thadrick Heaney of Valdosta; great grandchildren, Levi Griffin, Haiden Griffin, Noah Griffin all of Sandy, Utah, and Scotlyn Griffin of New York, New York; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; numerous extended family members and a devoted caregiver and friend, Willie McMillian. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jamie Carroll, a sister, Doris Mills, husbands, R. T. Roberson and M.L. Heaney. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013, at eleven a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Steve Ward, Reverend Aubrey Bussell and Reverend Carlton Allen will officiate. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 -7 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia.
