Louis Z. Bodnar, of Idaho Falls, passed peacefully on May 15, 2016. He was born on April 30, 1932 to Stephen and Mary Elizabeth (Czimer) Bodnar of New Brunswick, NJ. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Elsa Carey and Marge Zavetz; five brothers: Steve Bodnar, Frank Bodnar, Bill Bodnar, Art Bodnar and Alex Bodnar and a son-in-law Thomas R. Sherwood. He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Arlene Masternack Bodnar; and their four children: Timothy Bodnar, Andrea (Michael) Thelen, Margaret (Ritch) Blackstead, Stephanie Sherwood; one granddaughter and three great grandchildren; and one brother: Robert Bodnar of Goodyear, AZ.

Louis was a US Navy veteran and served in the Korean War and was a graduate of Seton Hall University. He spent his career working as Nuclear Chemist for the Atomic Energy Commission and a Nuclear Lab Manager for the US Energy Research and Development Administration in New Brunswick, NJ, and as a Branch Chief for the US Department of Energy at the INL until his retirement in 1987. Louis was an active parishoner at the St. Ladislaus Roman Catholic Church in New Brunswick, NJ and served as Past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. He, his wife, Arlene, and their four children moved to Idaho Falls in 1977, and were active members of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church. Lou enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting. He and Arlene were avid travelers with their children in younger years, and were fortunate to visit many sights and places around the globe in their retirement. Louis particularly loved their annual trips to Oahu & Maui, HI and Las Vegas, NV. Throughout his life, Louis loved to entertain and host parties. He was known to be quite the jokester, and his smile and keen, wry sense of humor were admired by many who knew and loved him.
