Heaven gained a special angel as it opens its gates for Lucille “Tillie” Zimmermann Griffin. Tillie was born on September 28, 1924 in New Orleans, LA to John Antoni Zimmermann and Agnes Landry Zimmermann.

She was raised in a happy, active family devoted to her Catholic faith. She loved New Orleans and always held it dear to her heart. Any time to celebrate was met with Tillie’s attendance, always accompanied by her family and friends who loved to spend time with her. Christmas held a special place in her heart, gathering with family, food, and carols.

She moved to San Antonio, TX after Hurricane Katrina devastated her beloved New Orleans.

Tillie met the love of her life, Donald, at the USO in New Orleans while he was stationed in the Crescent City. Both were very athletic, and she being the competitor, won on many occasions. He affectionately called her “Doll”. The love they modeled for each other has touched so many.

She and Donald F. Griffin were married on December 1, 1945. They shared their love with their seven surviving children: Donald F., Jr. (Mary Ann), John T. (Kathleen Monju), Lawrence J. (Deborah), Dennis E. (Carolyn), Ann Dumas (David), Gary T. (Don Dupre), and Mary Tobin (Tom).

She is also survived by her sisters Mary Hansen, Margaret Murphy and “Brother Bill” Lawrence Zimmermann as well as 13 grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren and many extended family who loved her so.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother, Miriam Zimmermann, siblings John A. Zimmermann, Dorothy Zimmermann Hecker, and Elizabeth Zimmermann.

Tillie will be missed by many whose lives she touched in a special way.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 11 AM.
