Lucille Ladena Payne Hosford, 80, of Boise, passed away October 15, 2016 in a local care facility. A graveside memorial service will be held at Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise on November 15, 2016.
Lucille was born in Boise to Millard and Ethel Payne November 24, 1935. Prior to her 1954 graduation from St. Mary's of the Wasatch in Utah, she attended Whitney Elementary, South Jr. High and Boise High Schools. She was active in many high school organizations and made friendships that remained important throughout her life. It was at Boise High School that she met and later (1955) married Victor Hosford and together they raised three daughters and a son. She took pride in Victor's 45-year career in architecture during which he received many design awards for commercial, residential and public buildings throughout Idaho.

Lucille devoted her early married life to raising her children. She spent hours reading to them and made sure they were well behaved and dressed when they went to The Mode Tearoom for pie or milkshakes. It gave her great satisfaction to make sure all had a childhood rich in experiences. This led to involvement as a Girl Scout leader, PTA and 4-H advisor, and chauffeur to various music, dance lessons and fly fishing lessons. Her life was busy with these activities and with sharing adventures and making memories with friends and family at their cabin in Grandjean. Lucille would often be found hiking to a wilderness pond for a glimpse of a high mountain orchid and upon returning to the cabin would pair just-picked huckleberries with the morning pancakes. During winter she cherished the robin egg blue skies she encountered on the seven mile one-way journey to the cabin on cross country skis.

Lucille grew up and remained in Boise, and was always very interested in local history. For several years she volunteered for the Boise Historic Preservation Society and made it a point to pass on colorful and informative stories about businesses, buildings and people in an effort to preserve those legacies and memories.

An elegant, beautiful woman both inside and out, Lucille was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She made a lasting impression on all lucky enough to know her. We will remember her beautiful smile and wry sense of humor. She leaves us with memories of reading and sharing wonderful books, amazing us with her skills as a seamstress, appreciating the riches of nature, big shared family meals, and the value of simplicity, social protocol and other rich life lessons. A lover of many kinds of music and art, she especially appreciated the talents of Gene Harris and friend Tennessee Ernie Ford.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband Victor, brother Millard, a sister Leah (Perry) Fryslie, and niece Cheri Fryslie. Survivors include daughter Kristi (Pete) Edmunds, daughter Lorie Hosford, daughter Diane (Art) Brown, and son, Steven Hosford; four grandchildren: Brittnie and Tiffanie Poston, Valerie (Shayne) Sheets and Victoria Hosford; niece Annette (Bob) Anderson, sister in-law Carol Doan, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family.

A memorial graveside service will be held Tuesday November 15 at 1pm in Morris Hill Cemetery.
