Lucy Cieslewicz Bastek "Nanny B." a retired Produce Farmer and resident of Pine Island, NY entered into rest on Sunday November 27, at Valley View, Goshen, NY at the age of 96.
She was the daughter of Polish immigrants John Sr. and Julia Scymak Cieslewicz who came to this country and established a small dairy farm outside of Bullville in 1915. It was here that Lucy was born on December 8, 1919 and grew up farming with the family. She met John Bastek Sr. of Pine Island and they were married on November 19, 1939 at St. Stanislaus Church in Pine Island. It was in Pine Island that together with the help of their 3 children they operated a produce farm.
She was a former assembler for Kolmar Laboratories, Port Jervis and a member of Slate Hill Pacers Senior Citizens.
Lucy is survived by her three children; daughter Helen Arkel of Warwick, NY; 2 sons- John Bastek of Reading, Pa and Frank Bastek Sr. "Poppy" and wife Suzanne of Middletown, NY; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters Ann Dibble & Sophie Schoonmaker ; brother Stephen Cieslewicz and several nieces & nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John of 19 years; her parents John & Julia Cieslewicz; her stepmother Kunegunda Olewski Cieslewicz; infant brother Stanley & infant sister Mary; her brothers John L., Theodore A., and Joseph Z.; daughter in law June Bastek; as well as several brother in laws, sister in laws and nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be held on Friday December 2, 2016 at 10 am at St. Stanislaus Church, 17 Pulaski Highway, Pine Island, NY.
Visitation will be held on Thursday December 1, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at T.S. Purta F.H. 690 Co. Rt. 1, Pine Island, NY.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Pine Island, NY
