Lucy Dodd Myers, 94, died peacefully on October 29, 2017 surrounded by her family.

Born December 2, 1922, in Birmingham, Alabama, Lucy was raised in Savannah, GA, by loving parents Lucy McEwen and Thomas McDuffie Dodd, a railroad official. She married husband Alex Henderson Myers in 1943 and moved throughout the US before settling in Dunedin with daughters Betsy and Alice.

Lucy’s early career was dedicated to education, teaching at Dunedin Elementary for twenty years. She earned her Master’s Degree in Library Science to enrich her students. Her retired years were spent with service to church (Episcopal Church of The Good Shepard, Dunedin, FL; Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross) and to community (Retired Educators Association, Fidelis Alpha Delta Kappa, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution). She loved to travel and did so extensively in the United States and Europe. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a true family matriarch. Her independent spirit and love of family serve as a model for everyone who knew her.

Survivors include daughter Betsy Myers Kelly (Mark) and grandchildren Sean Kelly, Andrew Muchmore (Diana), and Beth Kelly (Dave Tice). Lucy was predeceased by loving husband Alex in 1967 and daughter Alice in 2012.

A memorial service will be held at Church of The Good Shephard, Dunedin FL, on November 25th at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Church of The Good Shephard or your local community Hospice.

Lucy leaves us rich in memories, but only good ones, as that is all she ever remembered.
