Lydia Santiago of Boston, formerly of Plymouth, MA died on July 18 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. Born in Puerto Rico on March 28, 1940 she was the daughter of Florencio and Juana (Medina) Santiago. She was employed for many years as a Nanny for the Hon. Nancy Gertner‘s family and for the Garai Family. She loved taking care of their children. She loved to travel and enjoyed going to the casino and yelling BINGO. Spending time with her family and her longtime companion and best friend Morris filled her heart with joy. She was the loving mother to her children Laura Rivera of Taunton, MA, Jose (Monchito) Matienzo of Kingston, MA, Luis Matienzo of Plymouth, MA, and Lydia (Tita) Matienzo De-Arias of Dorchester, MA. She adored her 9 grandchildren Bianca, Tony, Lisa, Kristina, Mikael, Jose, Lacey, Daniel, and Mercedes. She cherished her great grandchildren.She was the loving sister of Pedro, Carlos, Celine, Tonya and Adelaida.She was admired by all of her many nieces and nephews. Her cremation was arranged by Cartmell-Davis Funeral Home in Plymouth, MA. A private memorial service took place on July 25. A private celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
