Lynda Richert McConnell, 76, passed away, Sunday, August 27, 2017. Born in Lansing, MI on February 3, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Chandler Wysor Gordon and Dorothy Thomas Richert.

She is survived by her husband, John Daniel McConnell, Jr.; daughter, Beth Welsh (Jim); son, Johnny (Katie); son, David (Dowling); the ten grandchildren that were the love of her life; Jim, Maggie, Chandler, and Sarah Welsh; Jack, Liza and Kate McConnell; Carson, Gracie, and Ann Davis McConnell; a brother, Tom Gordon; and a sister, Ann Ferrell.

Raised in Asheville and later Raleigh, she graduated from Saint Mary's High School and the University of North Carolina. She married John in August 1962, and they recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. The time spent at Neighbor to Neighbor and Bible Study Fellowship were two of the most meaningful ministries to her. She loved her family, especially her 10 grandchildren. Her family and friends knew how much she loved them. She spent the last years of her life traveling the state going to every dance recital, sporting event, chorus concert and spelling bee- if a grandchild was participating, she was there. She loved having her door wide open to all who came to her home, and she especially enjoyed visiting around the kitchen table. She is now sitting at the one table that really matters.

A celebration of life will be held at Church of the Apostles, 333 Church at North Hills Street, on Thursday, August 31 at 3:00 pm, with reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. There will be a visitation at the home Wednesday, August 30 from 7:00-9:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Neighbor to Neighbor, 1200 S. Blount St., Raleigh, NC 27601 or Camp Oak Hill, 3824 Barrett Dr., Ste. 303, Raleigh, NC 27609.
