Madolyn Huckabee, 89, of Abilene passed away on Sunday February 12, 2017 at Hendrick Hospice Care in Abilene, TX. Graveside services will be 1:30p.m., Thursday February 16, 2017 in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Born March 9, 1927 in Munday, TX, she was the daughter of the late John William Henderson and Jesse Pearl Hutcheson Henderson. She married James William (Bud) Huckabee on July 14, 1945 in Portales, NM. The couple settled in Olton, TX , where her husband farmed cotton and she oversaw the household which soon included three sons. In that capacity she sewed most of her family's clothing and became an accomplished cook. She also excelled at creative hobbies producing intricate wood burned artwork and oil paintings of which West Texas windmills were a favorite subject. Later, she became a certified handwriting analyst. Throughout her life she was a woman of faith.
In 2000, she moved to Abilene where she was a member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ. While in Abilene she became connected with the Zambia Medical Mission and spent many of her days sewing hundreds of beautiful dresses for little girls in Zambia.
Her family was blessed by the joyfulness with which she lived her life in her later years, even in the nursing home where she showed great compassion for the other residents, loved the staff, and was loved by them.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister; and brother. Survivors include her three sons and their families; Steve Huckabee and his wife, Laura of Austin, Jim Huckabee and his wife, Judy of Amarillo, and Stan Huckabee and his wife, Elaine of Abilene; along with six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of The Oaks at Radford Hills for the wonderful care and friendship give to Madolyn.
