COLUMBIA - Mamie Gunter Small Pruitt, 101, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Opus Post Acute Rehab in West Columbia.
Born September 21, 1915 in the Asheville, N.C. area, Mamie spent most of her childhood in Ridge Spring, S.C. and moved to Columbia as a teenager. She attended school and worked in Columbia, retiring from Baptist Hospital. Mamie lived the last 30 or more years of her life as a resident of the Finlay House in Columbia and was very active there. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mamie was preceded in death by her parents, Dr Felter Brooks Gunter and Cornelia Gunter Gunter; two husbands, Wade J. Small, Jr and August L. Pruitt; sisters Leone and Nellie; brother, James; and her daughters, Stella and Annell.
Mamie is survived by a niece and her family, Cornelia Ann Burnett Williams and her husband, Leland Hendry Williams; great-niece, Carolee Williams and her husband, Doug James; great-nephew, Lee Williams and his wife, Wendy; and great-great nieces and nephews and their spouses, Alex James, Stuart James, Carol Ann and Steven Peake, Alicia and DJ Hoffer, and Elizabeth Williams.
Mamie is also survived by her sons and their spouses, Wade (Tim) and Roongtip Small, Oderra and Julie Small; her grandchildren and their spouses, Lauren Ballew, Griffin Williams, Gaven and Ashley Small and their daughter Madilynn, Corbin Small, Logan Small and Allyson Small. She is also survived by her friend and daughter-in-law, Debbie Small.
Memorials may be made to Pine Castle, 4911 Spring Park Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32207, www.pinecastle.org, a special needs facility for children and adults. Mamie’s granddaughter, Lauren, is a resident there.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
