Marcella Anne Mitchell

Nov. 10, 1926 -- Jan. 14, 2017

Marcella Anne Mitchell (age 90) was born Nov. 10, 1926 in Roseland-Chicago, Ill., and was the eldest of four children. She later lived in Thornton, Ill. for 42 years with her husband Charles E. Mitchell, Sr. She moved by way of Dyer, Ind., to Cardiff, California, where she spent the past 10 years.

Marci worked in retail and in the hardware industry during her married years. She also became a talented artist, with professional-level proficiency in ceramics, crocheting, and oil painting. Her friends and relatives consider the many pieces she created for them to be treasured heirlooms and memories of Marci’s talent and eye for color.

Marci was a caring, generous, inquisitive, and inspiring sister, mother, grandmother and friend, who had a listening ear for everyone. She was an avid reader, loved playing word games, watching news and sports, and enjoyed sipping a good margarita. She was also a wonderful communicator who kept her family connected through phone calls and texts (complete with emojis). Marci was a woman of faith, hope, and the greatest love.

She is survived by her brother Leo Hohl (Irene) of Sun City, Ariz.; sister Kathleen Serapin of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter Elizabeth Good (Jack) of Cardiff, Calif.; and son Jeffry Mitchell (Mitzi) of Valparaiso, Ind., as well as seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charles E. Mitchell, Sr., as well as her son, Charles E. Mitchell, Jr.
