Marcia Kay Gardner of Sarasota, FL, Chicago, IL and Wheaton, IL, passed away on April 2, 2017 in Raleigh, NC. She was born October 24, 1943 in Des Moines, IA to the late Daniel Cook and Edith "Hope" Cook.

Marcia is survived by her sons, Greg Becker (Audrey) and Brent Becker (Sara); grandchildren, Austin, Kaitlyn, Olivia and Jeremy; and siblings, Vance Cook, Linda Kersey and Andrew Cook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Gardner and brother, Douglas Cook.

Marcia and Gene raised their sons in West Suburban Chicago, where Marcia was a successful real estate agent for Coldwell Banker of Glen Ellyn. Marcia had a passion for fine dining, cultural events and exploring the City of Chicago. This eventually led to the purchase of a condo above the Chicago River to enjoy the spectacular views. Marcia and Gene loved to travel Europe often, and England was Marcia's favorite. Europe and Chicago influenced her talent for interior design.

Marcia was an incredible mother, wife, sister and grandmother. Her love and devotion for her family inspired us to be better people and to care for one another. She was patient, loving and supportive to all of her family and friends.

Marcia fought brain cancer and the intense subsequent treatments. While this was a difficult time in her life, she approached it with hope and dignity. She fully recovered and enjoyed an active life for many years. Even as her health deteriorated, she enjoyed family time, holidays and dinners out. Her 70th birthday was an amazing milestone that brought the entire family together for celebration.

We are very sad to lose her, but grateful she is pain-free and reunited with her husband, brother and mother.

A memorial service will be held 11am Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Crossroads Fellowship Church, 2721 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27604.
