Maria Madalena Morais, 74 Maria Madalena (Lopes) Morais, 74, of Gloucester and Santo Amaro, Pico, Azores, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, March 30, 2015, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by her family. She was born in the village of Santo Amaro on the island of Pico in the Azores, on Oct. 27, 1940. On Oct. 9, 1961, she married her husband José Lourenço Morais, and came to Gloucester in 1967. She was very dedicated to her job at Gorton's, where she worked for 34 years before retiring. In addition to her husband of 53 years, José Lourenço, she is survived by her three children, daughter, Maria José Pereira, and her husband, Antonio, of Gloucester; Robert Morais of San Diego, Calif.; Edward Morais, and his wife, Nissa, of Gloucester; and seven grandchildren, Danny Pereira, and his girlfriend, Chelsea; Jacob Pereira; and Elijah, Cameron, Madalena "Laney," Will and Drew Morais. She is also survived by her brother, Jorge Lopes, and his wife, Maria Jose; and her beloved 103-year-old Godmother Maria Amelia Pereira, all of Portugal. She also leaves many loving in-laws, Godchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Manuel Gabriel and Maria do Carmo Lopes; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, José Luis and Ludovina Morais. Her funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, on Wednesday, April 8, at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester, at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Gloucester.
