Marianne Candler – 88, of Indianapolis, IN passed away August 27, 2021. She was born February 6, 1933 in Spanishburg, WV to the late Donald and Edith Farley. Marianne was a 1948 graduate of Spanishburg High School. After graduation she attended Concord College in Athens, WV for one year, studying Business Secretarial training. It was while attending college that she met and was courted by Darrell Candler, whom she married on Sept 4, 1951. After their marriage, the couple moved to Indianapolis in search of employment. Marianne worked for an insurance company for 2 years, until the birth of their first son, Gregory. Three years later, in 1956, Brady Edward was born. And in 1959, a daughter, Valerie Gail was born and completed their family. Darrell and Marianne were proudly married for 64 years until Darrell's death in 2016.
In 1964, a significant event took place in Marianne's life. While attending Southminster Presbyterian Church, she (and Darrell) accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior, and became born-again Christians. Life radically changed at that point in time. Serving Christ and the Church now dominated their focus and time. Marianne served as church secretary at Burge Terrace Baptist Church where they attended as well as on many committees and groups, including Bible School and Church Summer Camp. But it was the things that you didn't see that defined who she was. She opened her home to those who needed special shelter; she prepared meals and cleaned homes for many families in need. Strangely, she loved pulling weeds and helping with yard work. These were the things that defined Marianne's life and love for others. She served at a level that brought no public adulation or applause. She did it for her Savior!
Marianne is preceded in death by Darrell (husband), Brad Edward (son), and Valerie Gail (daughter); sister, Lou Cook, brother, Robert Farley.
Survivors include son, Greg (Mirriel) Candler, daughter-in-law Kimberly Candler; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Gardner (Bill), Jeffrey Candler (Laura), Brady Candler, Alyson Candler, Bryn Alexander, Alyssa Henry and Karsten Henry (Chelsea); nine great grandchildren, Finnegan, Maxwell, Beckett, Stella, Zion, Rhett, Rhys, Jax and Brice; sister, Margaret (Archie) Smith, sister-in-law Anna Farley.
There will be a Life Celebration on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 2:00PM at Burge Terrace Baptist Church, 9345 Brookville Road, Indianapolis, IN.
In honor of Marianne's life, memorial donations can be made to New Palestine Bible Church, 27 West Main St., New Palestine, IN 46163. Online condolences can be sent to the family at Hendryx Mortuary 19 East Main St is honored to assisting the family with the arrangements.
