Marie Napier Sumner, 98, of Winter Garden, Florida, peacefully journeyed to Heaven on April 8, 2017.

Visitation will be held at the Baldwin Fairchild Winter Garden Funeral Home on Saturday, April 15, from 10:30am to 11:30am. The funeral service will be held from 11:30am to 12:00pm. The Graveside Service will be held at Winter Garden Cemetery, 12:30pm to 1pm. Immediately following the Service, guests are invited back to the Baldwin Fairchild Winter Garden Funeral Home for a light meal and a time of sharing.

Marie was born in Farriston, Kentucky on March 13, 1919, the fourth of a family of ten. Moving with her family to New York as a school girl, living through the Great Depression of 1929, she went on to graduate from John Adams High School.

She married Albert Arnold Sumner on March 27, 1943. He was in the Navy and deployed during World War II.

Like most women during the war, she and her sister Cleo Stegner, went to work in Grumman Aircraft, a Defense Plant. Never to be confused with “Rosey the Riveter”, Marie went to work with her hair styled, her make up looking like it was professionally done, and dressed as neat and feminine as she could in such a job.

Marie and Albert – Arnold – were blessed with two sons. Jeffrey was born in 1945 and is now having a reunion with his mom in Heaven. Michael, born in 1955, honored his mother as the Bible commands, being with her and caring for his mother until she went home to Heaven.

Her loving husband of 56 years was her true soulmate. Usually busy they went to church, shopping and happily took their 4 grandchildren for a week at a time, to numerous places. Before leaving her house though, Marie always got dressed, fixed her hair and put on her makeup, looking like she just stepped off the pages of a fashion magazine.

Their son Michael lived up to his name sake, the Archangel Michael. In Marie’s later years, Michael was her caregiver, confidant, nurse, comforter, chef, chauffer, and did everything she needed or wanted. He truly was her Angel.

Marie is survived by one son: Michael Sumner, four grandsons: Vincent Sumner, Robert Sumner, Joshua Sumner and Matthew Sumner. three great-grandchildren: Justin Sumner, Venice Sumner and Vaughn Sumner, as well as three sisters: Jean Napier, Thelma Napier, and Joan Froebel, plus numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
