COLUMBIA - Marie Renee Roby Keigley, 86, passed away in her home on Sunday, October 21, 2017. A loving mother and patriotic Army Wife of 61 years. Marie was born in Angouleme, France, the daughter of WWI veteran Jean Roby and Andree Marie (Pressigout) Roby. Marie was a survivor of WWII and the Nazi occupation. She taught kindergarten for several years prior to working on a U.S. Army base. It was there she met and married a young Army Soldier, David L. Keigley. While still stationed in France, the Keigley clan grew by four sons: Jean William “Willie,” Frederic David, Eric Robert and Joel Pascal. Following their tour of duty in France, the Keigleys were transferred to Fort McClellan, Alabama and then to Birmingham, Alabama. They moved to Omaha, Nebraska while David deployed to Vietnam. Upon his return, they transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia, followed by an overseas assignment to Giessen, Germany. The next transfer brought the Keigleys to South Carolina, where they lived on Fort Jackson for several years before moving into and eventually retiring in their “real home.”

First and foremost, family and friends brought the most pride and joy to Marie. Second in pride is her U.S. Citizenship and her real-home. Fueled by her love and passion for children, Marie went back to work at the Fort Jackson Child Care Center. After moving into her real-home, over the next two and half decades, Marie provided loving care for more than a dozen children – they hold a special place in her heart. She was renowned for her glowing smile, open arms and warm heart. Marie loved riding her bicycle and would often be seen riding in the Forest Acres and Northeast areas. She also enjoyed reading as well as writing letters to her distant family and friends, Marie was fluent in three languages, with Spanish being the third. She enjoyed the beach as well as traveling and working in her yard. She especially loved her pets. Marie was an avid advocate and generous supporter of animals as well as the Blue, First Responders and our Military.
