Marie Conley Rubin died at her home in Encinitas on 11/26/2017. Marie was born in Pittsburgh, PA on 11/28/1922 to parents who came from Ireland. The family moved to Los Angeles when she was two years old. She was raised in Los Angeles and always considered that city to be “home” in spite of the many places she lived as an adult. Following her education, Marie worked as an accountant in both the private and public sectors.



Marie met her future husband, Joseph Rubin, while he was on Navy shore leave and married him in 1944. She traveled the world with him during his extensive naval career and afterwards. In 1965, they returned to southern California where they enjoyed their lives. Marie was a wonderful spouse and phenomenal mother to her growing family consisting of two daughters; Nancy and Joan. Her daughters were her greatest joy and she took pride in their considerable achievements and values. Marie shared her love and devotion to both people and animals with them which became their passions.



Marie was a powerful advocate for both civil rights and animal welfare throughout her life and contributed to these efforts. She also shared her love of theatre, arts, dance, dining, and new adventures with her extended family and friends. She was an incredibly devoted spouse, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to all who knew her.



Marie was predeceased by her husband Joseph Rubin, and daughter Joan Rubin. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy, and husband Dr. Jeffrey Matloff. She has been interred at Miramar National Cemetary.
