Marie Valle Fagot on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Age 96 years. Beloved wife of 60 years to the late Caryl Clark Fagot. Loving mother of daughters Donna M. Gauthier and Caryl L. Fagot. Adoring grandmother of Christian J. Fagot.

Born in New Orleans, Marie grew up in the Treme/7th Ward area. She married Elden J. Gauthier of Simmsport, LA. After his death, she married Caryl Fagot and they moved to Lakeview. Marie spent many hours in her garden, the place she loved best. She made a beautiful home that was a welcoming place for family and friends and a safe haven for pets of all kinds. The friendships she made in Lakeview have lasted a lifetime.

Marie was always active in St. Dominic Parish – volunteering at the school and at Church with the Altar and Rosary Societies. As a Eucharist Minister, she embraced her role in visiting the sick and elderly, bringing them Communion.

Marie was extremely devoted to St. Joseph and for the past 65 years she would honor the Saint by working on a St. Joseph Altar for his feast day. For more than 25 of those years she hosted an altar at her home in Lakeview. Her group of friends and volunteers worked tirelessly for months to prepare for St. Joseph’s day when they would feed hundreds of people who visited.

She was even more devoted to taking care of her grandson Christian and addressing his special needs. There is a special bond between Christian and his MawMaw.

After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, it was through the generosity and assistance of dear friends that the family relocated to the Belle Terre subdivision of LaPlace. Marie truly enjoyed her new neighbors and her peaceful garden on the lake. It was there she wanted to return after her hospital stay and diagnosis. Under the compassionate and excellent care of the nurses and staff of St. Catherine’s Hospice, she died at home surrounded by her family.

Kind, wise, hard-working and strong, Marie handled all of life’s ups and downs with grace and dignity through her deep faith in God. Without even knowing it, she was a role-model for her daughters and many of their friends and their children.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
