Marion S. Cay, 92, of Westmoreland, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2017 at Maplewood Nursing Home.

She was born February 13, 1925 in Hinsdale, NH, the daughter of Marion (Robertson) and Louis Stearns.

Marion attended area schools and graduated valedictorian of her class from Hinsdale High School. She continued her studies at Tufts University and graduated in 1947 with a B.A. degree in English.

Soon after, Marion moved to Wayland, MA where she resided until 1970. She moved back to her home state, living in Chesterfield until 1980 and then Walpole until 2005. Since then, Marion was part of the community at Maplewood in Westmoreland.

Marion always had a passion for residential real estate having owned many homes and having worked part time as a real estate agent for Curry Real Estate in Swanzey, NH in the 1970s and 80s. She was very fond of traveling main streets and back roads and viewing properties in the Monadnock Region. She had a special fondness for Walpole.

Marion had been an active member of the Unitarian Church in Walpole and belonged to the Unitarian Ladies Group. She was an energetic woman who loved outdoor activities. She was a hiking enthusiast and enjoyed her time on the trails of Pisgah State Park. She was also an avid swimmer and ice skater. She spent many wonderful days with family and great friends at Spofford Lake at a family home acquired in 1940 on the North Shore Road. In summer months, Marion tended to her gardens; she grew roses, morning glories and other flowers but her great passion was her vegetable garden. Marion was an avid gatherer of blueberries and strawberries from local farms; her frozen stock would last throughout the year. Marion's passion for fresh fruits and vegetables extended to the kitchen. She was a great cook and loved to entertain. Her delicious meals and wonderful deserts were enjoyed by many. Marion will be fondly remembered for her loving, nurturing way and constant dedication to her family.

Marion will be greatly missed by her two sons: Andrew Cay and his significant other Katrina Wilson of Brattleboro, VT, and William Cay and his wife Amy Wolff Cay of Cambridge, MA; four grandchildren: Edith Lillian Cay, Andrew Rankine Cay, Henry Wolff Cay, and Larisa Rose Cay; three daughters of Katrina Wilson: Geonna Wilson, Hanna Wilson and Marina Wilson; and former daughter-in-law: Susan Cay.

She was predeceased by her sisters Lucille Perkins and Elizabeth Stearns.

In keeping with Marion's wishes a private graveside service will be held at the family lot at Pine Grove Cemetery in Hinsdale, NH.

Donations may be made in Marion S. Cay's name to Friends of Pisgah and may be mailed to Friends of Pisgah, Inc., PO Box 134, Chesterfield, NH 03443-0134.
