Marjorie Bauerle Baker passed away on October 8, 2017 at the age of 87. She was born in Hammond, Louisiana on January 30, 1930. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mahlon Bauerle and Thelma Alexander Bauerle; her husband, Robert Wirt Baker, her son Robert Wirt Baker, Jr. , and her brother Gene Bauerle. She is survived by her twin sister Margaret Bauerle Gomez, her brother Robin Bauerle, her children, Susan B Rue ( Melvin), Julie B Breeden, James M Baker ( Marsha), and William W Baker ( Laura); 9 grandchildren, Alexander Baker, Jennifer Rue Furse, Heather Breeden Jones, Michelle Rue Madere Gillen, Bo Breeden, Morgan Baker, Ian Baker, Russell Reynolds, and Sarah Kate Reynolds and 9 great grandchildren, Gabrielle Madere, Jack David Jones, Amelia Breeden, Henry Breeden, Isaac Furse, Camille Jones, Webber Furse, Emmerson Gillen, and Nathan Gillen.

Marjorie grew up on a farm, but was a real southern beauty. She attended Hammond High School where she was on the homecoming court, and was later elected Queen of Pontchatoula Strawberry Festival. Following high school, she moved to New Orleans where she worked as a hairdresser in the Monteleone Hotel. It wasn’t long before she met and married Robert Baker and devoted her life as a wife, homemaker and mother to 5 children. Subsequent years found them moving to Mandeville, then Baton Rouge. Her final years were spent back in her hometown of Hammond where her twin sister, Margaret, still resides. Marjorie and Margaret (aka: the M&M’s!!) loved to while away the hours playing scrabble together. Aside from spending time with grandchildren and great grandchildren, her passion was antique shopping and decorating. Her addictions were design magazines and chocolate! She exemplified class, style and grace and yet had a playful sense of humor that will be missed by many.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 12noon to 1pm, on Sunday, October 15, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. At 1pm in the Chapel, there will be a spiritual commemoration of her life and interment following in Metairie Cemetery.
