Obituary for Marjorie "Margie" Williford
Marjorie "Margie" Williford, age 90, passed away on August 30, 2015, at her home in Walnut
Hill, Florida. Marjorie Edith Matteson was born in Poland, Indiana on September 24, 1924 to
Glenn Arden and Jennie Mae Matteson. Margie was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-
Grandmother. One of eight children, Margie was six years old when her father was killed and the
family moved two years later to St. Louis, Missouri. It was there she attended Nursing School at
Washington University where she met her future husband, Robert F. Williford, whom she
married on September 1, 1945 in Huffman, Alabama. Margie was a willing community
volunteer, especially helping in the Church library at First Methodist in Cullman, Alabama,
where the family had settled in 1948. After raising a family of five children, Dr. and Mrs.
Williford retired to Pensacola, Florida, later moving to Walnut Hill. Margie greatly enjoyed the
game of golf and played often at Burningtree Country Club, winning the First Flight of the
Women's Golf Association tournament at least once. She often golfed with her dear friend,
Tommie Stewart, of Hartselle. In her later years, Margie enjoyed communicating with family and
friends by e-mail and Facebook.
Margie is survived by Children; Joan Williford Cox, (Bruce), Carl F. Williford, Beth Williford
Hiebert, (Vern), and Marjanne Williford Willis, (Tim), daughter-in-law, Dee Williford; seven
grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild. Margie was
predeceased by her spouse, her son, Paul Williford, her parents, seven siblings, one grandson,
Gary Mizell, Jr., and one niece, Kathy Honey. Margie was a gracious loving lady with a great
sense of humor, who loved and liked to help others and make people smile.
Funeral service is set for: 10 A.M. on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Moss Funeral Home Chapel, 1901 2nd Ave NW, Cullman, AL. Interment will be in Cullman City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. at Moss Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the COPD Foundation, or to a charity of one's choice.
