Marjorie Marie Griffith, 94, of Hot Springs was welcomed into Heaven on June 3, 2017. She was born a coal miner’s daughter in the small mining community of Davey, West Virginia. Marge was the first of nine children born to the late Charles and Violet Roddy.

It was friends who knew before Marge and Fred that they were meant to be together. The young soldier was in the small town of Williamson, West Virginia on government business, yet after a quail cook hosted by the well-meaning friends, Marge and Fred became inseparable. They married after a brief courtship.

Fred, a career soldier, took Marge and their young family on many world adventures, including his last assignment in Zweibreiken, Germany. Fred and Marge had previously visited Hot Springs and fell in love with the city and knew this was where they wanted to retire. In 1965, Fred and Marge moved to Hot Springs with their four daughters and began a family business, a dress shop they called “The Fashion Manor” in Rector Heights. It was at this shop that they made many life long friends.

Marge and Fred were longtime members of Hot Springs Baptist Church. Their church family lifted Marge in love and prayer when she lost Fred in 1993 and again during Marge’s final days here on earth. Marge will be greeted in Heaven by Fred, her eight siblings, and her dear parents.

She will be missed daily by her four daughters Diana Kay (Ken) O’Neal, Loretta Jo “Cindy” (Larry) Warnack, Colleen (Paul) Johnson, and Alice Annette (Jay Mac) Moore. Her fabulous sense of fashion and fun will not be forgotten by her grandchildren Christian, Matthew and Meghan or by her seven great-grandchildren.

The family’s love extends to the wonderful staff and Marge’s friends at Garrett Woods Assisted Living and to the very special people at Kindred Hospice for their love and care as she journeyed to Heaven.
