Orange – Marjorie W. (Larabee) MacLean, 87, of Orange, died unexpectedly Monday, April 18, 2011 at Athol Memorial Hospital. Born March 20, 1924 in Deferiet, NY, she was the daughter of Henry and Hazel (Felio) Larabee and grew up and attended schools in New York before moving to Orange in 1945. She worked at the former Orange Shoe Company for 20 years and Fredericks Rubber Co., in Athol as a stitcher for an additional 20 years, before retiring in 1993. A very private and loving person, Marjorie cherished her independence. Marjorie enjoyed working around the yard and vegetable gardening. In her later years, she also enjoyed word puzzles, watching CSI, the News, and the weather. Survivors include four nephews, Gerald Hemingway of NC; William Hemingway of MA; George Hemingway of MA; and Richard Reome of NY; two nieces Gloria Pace of MA who cared for Marjorie for several years; and Katherine Patten of SC. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Ralph MacLean, daughter, Gail MacLean, and two sisters, Gertrude Hemingway and Audrey Reome, as well as two nephews, Henry Hemingway and Eugene Hemingway Jr. A calling hour will be held prior to the Mass on Monday morning, April 25, 2011 from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning, April 25, 2011 at St. Mary's Church, 19 Congress Street, Orange, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in South Cemetery, Orange. Donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701. Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange, is directing the arrangements.
