Mark Westerfield Schlesinger, age 59, passed away peacefully at his home in Metairie on February 18, 2017. Beloved husband of 28 years to Myrna Coe Schlesinger; loving father of Spencer Coe Schlesinger and Tia Westerfield Schlesinger; son of Warren Ferdinand Schlesinger and Rheba Westerfield Schlesinger; brother of Gregory Warren Schlesinger (Lisa); Christopher Scott Schlesinger (Marjorie); Susan Schlesinger Rigney (Peter); and the late Stephen Carter Schlesinger (Martha). Devoted son-in-law of Lester Verner Coe, Jr. and Myrna Zeledon Coe; brother-in-law of Deborah Coe Saborio (Jose); Lester Verner Coe III (Janine); and the late Denise Coe Roberts; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was the grandson of the late Mr. and Ms. Otto Westerfield of Mendenhall, Mississippi. Mark was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and grew up in Metairie, where he was a lifelong resident. He attended Jesuit High School and Louisiana State University. He was co-owner of their family-owned business; Su-Surgical Inc. Mark had a kind and generous heart. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Mark adored his family. He was the consummate gentleman and an excellent cook. Mark was a foodie in the truest sense. A bona fide Louisiana sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing at his camp in Myrtle Grove, Louisiana. He cherished his times spent with his partners-in-crime on Suzie Bayou. An avid LSU fan, Tiger football was a passion, as were his revered New Orleans Saints. A member of Capitano’s Tennis and Athletic Club, Mark was the captain of his JCCA Gold tennis team. Mark’s family is eternally grateful for the outpouring of love from the St. Martin’s Episcopal School community, the medical community that he worked with for over 30 years as well as his beloved Myrtle Grove community.
