Markus Alan Craig, age 52, passed away on Wednesday February 8, 2017 after a brief and unexpected illness. His beloved wife, Lisa, was at his side. Markus was born on December 29, 1964 in Lincoln, Nebraska as the second son of Dennis and Donna (Boiler) Craig. Markus was a graduate of the University of Nebraska with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Natural Resources and Community and Regional Planning. He was a passionate Huskers football fan and cheered the team on, no matter where he called home. After working for the Nebraska Army National Guard in Lincoln, Markus moved to Florida where he worked in the environmental division at Fort Blanding. From there, he relocated to Washington, D.C. to pursue a career with the Department of the Army as a project manager. His most recent, multi-year project was the Base Re-Alignment and Closure (BRAC) of the historic Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Markus’s lifelong pursuits included sailing, carpentry, exploring his Scottish heritage (including understanding the nuances of a single malt vs. blended scotch) and wine tasting with his wife. Markus is survived, in addition to his adored wife Lisa, by 5 children: Amber, Brett, Cory (Elizabeth), Emma and Evan Craig; two stepsons: Harry Logan and Lucas John Emery Burcham; and two granddaughters Hannah and Hailey Craig. Other survivors include his father Dennis, brothers Matt (Angie) and Aaron. Services will be held at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Annapolis at 2 pm on Tuesday February 14th. Visitation will be held at Taylor Funeral Home at 147 Duke of Gloucester Street on Monday, February 13 from 3 to 5 pm and again from 6 to 8 pm. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Lisa asks for donations to the Nebraska Football Student-Athlete Experience. Funds may be sent to: Markus Craig Memorial, Nebraska Athletics, 625 Stadium Dr., Lincoln, NE 68501-2848. Please make checks payable to the University of Nebraska Foundation.
