Marlys C. Durkin, 74 of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Marlys was born on February 13, 1942 in Bottineau, ND to Melvin and Minda (Thorsgaard) Kortgaard. She grew up on a farm near Kempton, ND and graduated from high school in Larimore, ND. She married Dallas Durkin on April 23, 1960 in Larimore. They started their lives in North Dakota, settling in the Climax and Shelly, MN area before she moved to Fargo. Marlys was a stay at home mom for many years and drove school bus for the Climax School District. She worked at the Fargo Post Office and retired after 26 years of service.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting (especially baby clothes), playing games and cards with her Edgewood Vista friends, luncheon dates with special friends and co-workers, and looked forward to having her nails done. She will always be remembered by her family as loving her flowers, family vacations, and camping trips that she treasured until the end. Her favorite past time was spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter and attending their activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Kortgaard and nephew, Corey Tupa.

Marlys is survived by her children, Lori (Dwight) Bartz of Moorhead, Donna (Dennis) Krier of Fargo, Patti (Chad) Lofton of Moorhead and Charles (Rena) Durkin of Forest Lake, MN; grandchildren, Casey (Caitlin) Bartz, Hannah Krier, Parker Dickelman, Peyton Dickelman, Charlie Lofton, Meeya Durkin and baby Durkin; great-granddaughter, Bailey Bartz; brother, Shelly (Nora) Kortgaard of Colorado; sister, Sharon (Paul) Tupa of Northwood, ND; brother-in-law, Daryl Durkin; sisters-in-law, Kathy Denault and Karen Durkin and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sanford Health for the wonderful care Marlys received and to Hope Lutheran Church for their ministry and special visits.

Memorial Service: Monday, November 28 at 2:00 pm at Hope Lutheran Church – North Campus, Fargo with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
