Martha was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was always there for her family and friends when she was needed. She enjoyed helping others such as being a pink lady in the local hospital. She graduated from Midway High School 1942 and married Bill, as she called him, in February, 1945.
Martha loved nature. She had numerous bird houses in her yard and enjoyed gardening very much. She was president of the Pine Garden Club in Tifton, GA for a number of years. She was a lifetime member of the Garden Club of Georgia. She loved animals. Puffins were her favorite bird. After Bill retired from J. P. Stevens, they traveled extensively to different countries and different parts of the United States.
Martha was always learning new crafts. She learned how to create beautiful pieces of stained glass. She was an excellent seamstress, avid reader, crossword solver and caramel cake maker. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tifton, GA.
Martha is survived by her four children, Tim Smith (Sandy), Calera, AL, Melinda Smith (Ron), St. Simons Island, GA, Peggy Wingo (Tommy), Canton, GA, and Billie Kay Snell (Brian), Gadsden, AL. She is survived by four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
A special thanks goes out to her wonderful caretakers, Celinia Sturm, Heather Muirhead, and DeAnna Mobley as well as Alacare Hospice. Billie and Brian took wonderful care of our mother in their home for three years. Southern Care in Tifton, GA took very good care of her for three years.
A graveside service will be held at Baldwin Memorial Gardens in Milledgeville, GA on Sunday, May 28 at 2 PM. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Alzheimer's Association.
