Martha Joan “Jody” Williams (Foster), formerly of Round Rock, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017, in Flower Mound, Texas, coming to peace after struggling with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 80.

Jody was born on January 1, 1937, in Killeen, Texas, and was raised there by her parents Henry and Faye Foster. At the age of 18, Jody met and married 1st Lieutenant Thomas Edgar Williams, who whisked her off into a military life that spanned two continents and over 30 years in the US Army and Texas National Guard. Throughout their Army career, Jody remained keenly active at their posts’ Officers’ Wives Clubs while volunteering at many churches and their children’s schools. Fort Knox, Kentucky, declared Jody the “First Lady of the 1st Brigade,” where she “set the example for all military wives” through her active leadership improving the Permanent Party Family Life Program, military trainee family nights and graduation ceremonies, and many other key social programs. On the occasion of Tom’s military retirement after 30 years’ service, US Army Chief of Staff General Edward C. Meyer personally issued to Jody a formal citation of appreciation “for her own unselfish, faithful and devoted service,” citing “her unfailing support and understanding” as lasting contributions to the Nation.

Jody loved painting, working with stained glass, quilting, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and gardening. She particularly enjoyed doing crafts of all types with her grandchildren. After Jody and Tom retired and settled in Round Rock, Jody’s joy and love for her Texas home and neighbors warmed the lives and souls of all who met her. She was all the daughter, wife, mother, sister, and grandmother that God intended for each of us. We are as dearly blessed as she is dearly missed.

Jody is preceded in death by Colonel Thomas Edgar Williams, US Army (retired), her husband for 56 years, who passed away on October 15, 2011. She is survived by her daughters Kelli Lynn Mayeux and husband Sidney, and Lanie Thompson and husband Randy; son Todd Eric Williams and wife Shari; eight grandchildren; and her sister, Patsy Greenway, of Flower Mound, Texas.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 19, at J.E. Foust and Son Funeral Home, 523 S. Main Street, Grapevine, Texas: Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. John Ellis, Jody’s dear family friend from Round Rock, will preside.

Jody will join her husband in interment at West Point Cemetery, US Military Academy, West Point, New York, at a date soon to be determined. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Williams’ family welcomes donations offered in her memory to The Cure Alzheimer’s Fund: http://www.curealz.org/ .
