Harris, Martin Marty 84 of Longwood, Fl, passed away on December 9, 2016. He was born in Brooklyn, NY. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and trusted friend. Mr. Harris served in the US Air Force after graduating NYU. He retired from the Air Force Reserve with the rank of Colonel. He also worked for Lockheed Martin, retiring after 40 years of service in 1997. During his tenure with Martin he worked on multiple programs and holds several patents. He held several awards from Lockheed Martin and the Air Force Association one of them citing him as a "doer, a mentor, a source of wise council and giving guidance at all levels". He received the coveted Brereton Award as Aerospace Man of the Year from Florida and the Secretary of the Air Force presented him the Exceptional Service Award. He was a Board Member Emeritus of the Air Force Association, having previously served as its National Chairman of the Board, National President and National Secretary. He was the first President of AFA (Florida) and chapter president. Mr. Harris served as Vice President and a Trustee of the Aerospace Education Foundation helping to get the Air Force Memorial constructed without use of any public funds. A widower (Patricia deceased 2008), he is survived by daughters Lori Harris of St. Petersburg, Fl; Barbara (Jeffery) Mathews of Maitland, Fl; grandchildren, Brittany Johnson, Gwendolyn Nicholas, Erin Nicholas, Joanna Mathews; great grandchildren, Cameron and Jaxson. Funeral services for Martin H Harris will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11:00 BALDWIN-FAIRCHILD FUNERAL HOME - ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, 994 E. Altamonte Dr, Altamonte Springs, Fl. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, at 2PM. A greeting of Friends will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 5-8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Aerospace Education Foundation or the local Central Florida Chapter of the Air Force Association.
