Mary Drake Carper (age 87) of Midlothian, Virginia, formerly of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away February 11, 2015. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Charles Calvin Carper, parents Tarlton “Tike” Drake and Hattie G. Drake, and one sister, Naomi Samples of Clendenin, WV.



Mary retired from Union Carbide in South Charleston, WV where she worked as an Advanced Lab Technician. She was a fifty (50) year member of Calvary Baptist Church in Charleston, WV and a 65 year member of Thelma Chapter No. 24 Order of the Eastern Star, Clendenin WV. She was also a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem.



Mary is survived by one daughter, Charlene and her husband Guy Vaughan, four sisters, Helen Young of Charleston, WV; Ruth Carper of Lakeland Florida; Hannah Drake of Charleston, WV; June Logan of Tucson, Arizona and one brother, Earl Drake of Clendenin, WV. Mary is also survived by two grandsons, Ryan Vaughan (Susan) and great granddaughter, Sophie Elizabeth Vaughan of Rocklin, CA; Evan Vaughan of West Palm Beach, FL and nine nieces and nephews.



The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the amazing, supportive and attentive staff and friends at Morningside of Bellgrade Assisted Living Facility. They are considered to be our extended family and we were blessed to have them by our side during this very challenging time of life. We would also like to extend a very sincere thanks to the Hospice Community Care team who stepped in like a loving family without missing a beat and provided comfort, support and amazing care for all of us.



Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home with the Reverend Archie Snedegar officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at the family cemetery in Amma, WV.
