Mary C. Miller 1920 - 2015

If the sky seems a little brighter, that's because Mary C. Miller, also known as "Sunshine Mary" joined the angels and added her radiance to the heavens. Mary Claudette Miller, beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother grand Aunt and great grandmother died peacefully at the home of and under the care of her son Bill, on October 7th, 2015, at 7:00 am, in Cedar Grove, NJ.
Mary Miller, a first generation American, was the first born of Pasquale and Philomena Belcastro on March 12th, 1920, in Morgantown, West Virginia. After the tragic death of Mary's younger brother, the family now including sister, Genevieve and bother, Arthur, headed north to Ozone Park, NY. Mary's spirit, faith and will to live got her thru a serious bout of scarlet fever for which she was hospitalized for over 6 months. While attending John Adams HS, Mary meet her best friend, Lucille Patton, and the girls shared dreams of the men they would marry. Mary wanted tall, dark, handsome and charming, while Lucille wanted an intellectual, politically involved artist, who spoke several languages. Both girls got the men of their dreams.
Mary met her prince charming, and husband of 57 years, Frank Miller, at the Brooklyn Navy Yard while he was on leave and where Mary was employed as an executive secretary. After courting her for only 75 days, Frank proposed with the famous line, "Mary, it's now or never". The couple married on Sept 10th, 1945 and honeymooned in Lake George. On May 29th, 1946 had their first child, Frank John, 13 months later in 1947 their daughter Laura was born and in 1951, their last child, Bill, completed the family. After Bill graduated HS, Mary to return to work as an executive secretary to the Admiral at Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in Great Neck, Long Island.
Mary was a devoted wife, a loving mother with many rules and regulations, an adoring grandmother and a delighted great grandmother. She was famous for her spectacular cooking, usually Italian, with a few German entrees to please her husband. Mary loved everything about Hollywood, watching the academy awards every year all dolled up as if she were in the live audience. She was an expert knitter, making gorgeous booties, mittens and sweaters for her children and grandchildren. She was loved and admired by many for her warmth, charm, kindness, and the way she kept herself fit and always well dressed in her very own elegant style.
Mary set a great example of quiet dignity after the loss of her beloved husband, Frank, on March 23, 2003 and the tragic loss of her oldest son, Frank John at only 60 years old, on Oct 10, 2006. She is survived by her daughter Laura, son Bill, daughters in law Kathleen Miller and Cheryl Miller, her son in law, Greg Malone, seven very special grandchildren, Courtney DiMiero, Douglas Miller, Claire Hare, William Patrick Miller, Sarah Coe, Morgan Malone and Robin Miller and two truly amazing Great Grandchildren, Ted & Kate DiMiero.
