On April 7, 2017, Mary Ella Lugo was called home to spend an eternity in the presence of her Creator, her Lord and Savior. Mary gave her tender heart to God at an early age, and she lived her entire life following the word of God and anticipating the rewards she would receive when heaven’s gates were opened.

Mary was a beautiful lady – radiant, glowing, kind and loving. She was meticulous in every detail, her hair always perfectly coiffed, her face luminous and her tiny frame clothed modestly but impeccably with class and style. She was polished, delicate, and elegant.

She loved shopping, going out to eat, feeding the ducks at local parks and hugging cats and dogs. Although her health began to decline over the last few years, her love for others never waned. She enthusiastically welcomed all friends and family into her home and no one ever left after visiting without a kiss and a sweet “I love you”.

Her loved ones find comfort in believing that Mary was greeted Friday afternoon, by those that had departed before her – the love of her life, beloved husband, Iode (Vic) Lugo; her daddy, Bill Nichols; her mama, Ella Edger Nichols; her brother, Bobby Nichols; her dog Nick and a lot of kitties that she loved throughout her lifetime. Her survivors include her daughter, Darlene Lugo, Melanie Yarbrough (Andy); her granddaughters, Erica Mossholder and Emily Crabtree; her brother, James Nichols and sister-in-law of 67 years, Doris Nichols. In addition, she had an honorary family that included Susan Pollak, Debbie and David Sikes, and Maynie League. They provided love and care, walking the Alzheimer’s journey with Mary, holding her hand, spending holidays around the dinner table and bringing her joy and laughter.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 1:00 to 3:00 at Valhalla Funeral Home. Services to celebrate the life of this precious lady will be held at 3:00 at the Valhalla Chapel, with Paul Owen officiating the ceremony. Mary will be escorted to her final resting place by Lois McKinney, Susan Pollak, David and Debbie Sikes, Maynie League, Nedra Eddins, Debbie Edwards, Dana Burrows and Stan Grigsby.
