Mary “Woman” Shockley (née Fitzgerald) died on November 15, 2017 in Kansas City, MO at the age of 75. Mary is survived by her husband of 53 years, Hinton “Sam” Shockley; children, Darryl (Valerie) Shockley of Denver, CO; David (Lexye) Shockley of Savannah, GA; Denesha Snell of Kansas City, MO; sister, Frankie Hogan, and 5 grandchildren, Adam, Johari, Darius, William, and Selena. Mary was born on March 15, 1942 in Leighton, Alabama to Isaiah and Louise Fitzgerald. She married Sam in 1964, after moving to Kansas City. Her children remember her as a strong and passionate mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Mary was a caring individual who loved to talk, sing, and give advice to both her family and friends. She was passionate about life, her children, grandchildren, and people being real. Mary had received Jesus Christ as her Savior, and was an active and dedicated member of Living Faith Church. Mary loved spending time with the ladies of Living Faith. Prior to Living Faith, Mary and Sam were members of Graceway for 39 years. She served faithfully by Sam’s side as he lead the Way of Life class for 15 years at Graceway. A Celebration of Life and Homegoing is scheduled for Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Mid-Town Baptist Temple located at 3953 Walnut Street, Kansas City, MO 64111. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, and the Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 AM.
