Mary Fitzgerald Taylor, age 93, of Austin, TX, and formerly of Tulsa and Broken Arrow, OK, died Monday, June 12, 2017 in Austin.

Mary was born on October 24, 1923, in Verden, OK, to Ira Fitzgerald and Ora Totty Fitzgerald and lived on the family farm until she graduated from high school. Upon graduation, she enrolled at Hills Business University in Oklahoma City. There, she earned the honors of graduation in Secretarial Studies, and more importantly, met the love of her life, Arlis R. Taylor. They were married on July 23, 1942, in Miami, Florida where he was stationed with the Navy during World War II. In December 1943, he was transferred to San Pedro, CA. Mary followed him across the country and they settled in Long Beach, CA. Following the war, they returned to Oklahoma City and began their family. They had three sons and lived in Oklahoma City until 1962, when they moved to Tulsa. Arlis preceded Mary in death in 1996, but she remained in Tulsa until 2010, when she moved to Austin.

Mary was a warm, friendly and very gracious soul. She greeted everyone with a smile and maintained a positive attitude right up to the end. Her primary life ambition was to be a loving and caring wife and mother. She loved her family very much and definitely achieved this goal. But she also enjoyed working in the business world. During her career, she worked as a church secretary, the office manager of a local insurance agency and ultimately as an executive secretary for a company officer at Cities Service Oil Company in Tulsa. She retired in the late 1980's. While living in Tulsa, She was a member of Brookside Church of Christ, Garnet Road Church of Christ and Cedar Ridge Christian Church. In Austin, she attended Riverbend Church and was a member of the Grace Lab Community Group. She loved to sew, crochet, play bridge, swim, and travel.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arlis; and brothers Douglas Fitzgerald and Donald Fitzgerald. She is survived by her sons, Alan Taylor and wife Lanell of Albuquerque NM, Mike Taylor and wife Sharon of Longmont CO, and Steve Taylor and wife Melanie of Austin, TX; her grandchildren, Kendall Taylor and wife Erika Robers, Jennifer Taylor and husband Michael Young, and Kara Haynes and husband Brandon Haynes; and one great grandchild, Oliver Robers-Taylor. She is also survived by four nieces, Karen Fitzgerald, Douleta Hightower and husband Rudy, Dianna Johnston and husband Ted, and Kay Taylor, and one nephew Keith Fitzgerald and wife Jan.

The family wants to express their deepest thanks to the staffs of Brookdale Westlake Hills and Brookdale Hospice for the loving and gentle care they provided during Mary's final years. We took great comfort in knowing she was always cared for very well.
