Mary Frances Martin Cox was called to her heavenly home on June 10, 2016. She suffered from the effects of shingles for six months.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 13, 2016, at Guilford Baptist Church, 5904 W. Market Street, Greensboro, with Dr. Brady Huneycutt officiating. Interment to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive, Greensboro. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Frances was born on February 6, 1930, in Guilford County. As a child, her family moved quite a lot as her father sought employment during the Great Depression. After graduating from Mocksville High School in May 1950, Frances moved to Greensboro and began working. First at Kress' Dept. Store, Sears, and Ryser Printing Co., until she found stable employment at Dolly Madison Bakery. When the bakery moved to Georgia, she began working for John Harland Printing Co., where she retired in May 1991. Her passion and love for children gave her the opportunity to work with infants at Kindercare and Sunshine House until her health would no longer allow her to do so. After 14 years of service, she retired at 75.
Born to Lettie Epps Martin and Brady Williams Martin, Sr., Frances loved working alongside her beloved father in tobacco fields and his wood shop. She met her future husband while working at Sears. Calvin and Frances were married June 23, 1956, in Greensboro.
Her parents and four siblings preceded her in death, James A. Martin, Kenneth D. Martin, Dorothy A. Anderson and Brady W. Martin, Jr. Her husband passed on June 10, 1987. Surviving relatives include her daughter, Dawn Boswell of the home; son Martin Cox, Sr. (Roxann) of Burlington; grandchildren, Marty Cox (Wan) of Greensboro, Amanda Ray (Jason) of McLeansville; great grandchildren, Tadan Cox, Leila and Jason Ray and siblings, Joe Martin (Tina) of GA, Roy Martin (Grace) of McLeansville, Helen Knight (Wayne) of Greensboro, Alice Knight (John) of Summerfield and Leslie Martin (Carrie) of Greensboro. Numerous nieces, nephews and their families also survive her.
Frances was a faithful member of Guilford Baptist Church for 29 years.
