Sister Mary Jane Martin died very peacefully Saturday September 30, 2017 at St. Bernardine Home with members of her religious community present. A Sister of Mercy for 69 years she was 91 years old.

Sister Mary Jane was born February 13, 1926 to Louis and Catherine (Weott) Martin in Tiffin Ohio. She was one of six children, three boys and three girls. Sister Mary Jane attended St Joseph's elementary and Calvert High School.
Sister Mary Jane entered the Sisters of Mercy on February 1, 1948 in Cincinnati, Ohio. At reception she was given the name Sr. Mary Cajetan, which she later changed back to her baptismal name. She made first vows in 1950 and final vows on August 16, 1953 in Cincinnati Ohio.
She attended Mary Manse College in Toledo but left to help support her family. After entering the convent she attended Our lady of Cincinnati college graduating Cum Laude with majors in philosophy, social studies and education. Her master's degree was in Religious Education from Mundelein College, Chicago, Illinois.

Her first ministry was in elementary education teaching at Queen of Martyrs, Dayton, Ohio; St. Theresa, Cincinnati, Ohio, St. Vincent de Paul, Toledo, Ohio; and Holy Angels, Sandusky, Ohio. She then moved to Mercy Hospital Tiffin working in the Business Office as Supervisor and later in the finance /business office at the former Mercy Hospital in Toledo. She later used her gifts and talents to teach accounting courses and religion classes at the former McAuley High School in Toledo. As Sponsorship Coordinator at Mercy Hospital Tiffin she began many projects to convey the Mercy spirit and charism among the employees. Her final years were at St. Bernardine Home taking part in the prayer ministry of the sisters and quietly befriending many.
Her artistic talent was seen in her sewing. She was an excellent seamstress serving first her family and then in the various convents in which she lived. She not only made many outfits of clothing but also draperies, slipcovers for furniture, and lamp shade covers. Her attention to organization and detail was well known.

Sister Mary Jane is survived by the members of her religious community, the Sisters of Mercy and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Francis, Robert, and Louis, and sisters Ann Reinhart and Elizabeth Mohn.
Visitation will be Tuesday Oct. 3, 2017 from 3:00pm -7:00pm at St. Bernardine Home, 1220 Tiffin Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420, and on Wednesday Oct. 4, 2017 until the funeral. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 at 4:00pm in St. Bernardine's chapel. Burial will follow in Our Lady of The Pines Cemetery. Memorials donations may be made to Sisters of Mercy St. Bernardine Home.
